Or you have the not-so-publicly-available TV Pack for Vista Premium/Ultimate.I have not even bothered to try the included software because that's not what I bought this for.I wanted a digital TV tuner for my MicroITX box without blowing the lone PCIe slot, so I went with a USB device. The manual ATSC drivers *ARE* required if you wish to view over-the-air broadcasts in 7MC.Keep in mind that Windows Media Center does not support QAM unless you have Windows 7. High Speed USB 2.0 InterfaceThe high-speed USB 2.0 interface delivers up to 480Mbps bandwidth to ensure clear video quality and provides hot-swappable, plug-and-play capabilities for easy connection to your computer.Learn more about the AVerMedia MTVHBVMXR Model BrandPentium 4 3.0GHz with HT (Hyper-Threading) or Equivalent AMD Processor for Analog TVIntel Dual Core 1.6GHz or Equivalent AMD processor for Digital HDTV128 M VGA card with DirectX 9.0c or above(Supporting DXVA is recommended in HDTV mode)Windows XP / XP MCE / Vista / Vista MCE/Windows 7Over-The-Air Digital TV broadcasts (ATSC)Unencrypted "Clear" QAM support (Digital Cable)High Definition (HDTV) quality support up to 1080i/720pWindows XP/Vista MCE fully compliant by S/W encoderInstallation CD (included AVer MediaCenter)Additional Information Date First AvailablePros: ClearQAM worked out of the box in Windows 7's Media Center (7MC), no manual drivers needed at all.I was worried when I only say ATSC drivers on AverMedia's web site, but it turns out that's okay. S-video/Composite Cable IncludedWith the included S-video/Composite 2-in-1 cable, easily connect the AVerMedia AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max to your VCR, game console, or camcorder for video capturing. Again, my actual TV's tuner didn't have an issue with cable modem interference.Apparently my TV had a built-in filter for this, but the Hybrid Volar Max does not. With the Hybrid Volar Max internet activity had a direct influence on TV reception, yet it would still cause TV glitches in idle, but unplugging the cable modem completely would solve the problem. I only had my cable company bother to physically hook up my internet feed as I let my power conditioner split the cable for the modem and TV. Not a fault of this device. However, that side dongle would be sweet if it did component 480p input, but I can't ask too much from a fairly low cost dongle.Overall Review: At first, my ClearQAM reception with the Hybrid Volar Max was terrible which disappointed me considering plugging the cable directly into my TV worked flawlessly. This is to be expected, but it makes it worthless for DVR use, so I had to exploit ClearQAM.
The recordings even for analog stations can take up some space (an hour long recording took up over 2 GB), but I use Freemake Video Converter to remove the commercials and convert them to a different, more efficient video format. Works well with Windows Media Center, as I'm able to tune into ClearQAM and analog stations when plugged into cable, and listen to FM radio. AVer MediaCenter actually finds the encrypted channels, but only shows a black screen and no sound when tuned to it. I was hoping to get some more HD channels, but my TV provider, Timewarner, doesn't offer to many that are not encrypted, so its not the tuner's fault. Even the FM radio reception got better. So if you're splitting your cable for modem and TV, this device will need a high-pass filtPros: -Picks up all of the analog and unencrypted digital channels from my cable, and receives several channels off the air.-Great picture quality Digital HD channels come in crystal clear, and analog even looks good.-Even receives digital radio station channels from Music Choice.-Small size and comes with a small USB extender cord.-Antenna that came in the box is small and compact and gets relatively good reception.-Blue light that indicates when it is on.-AVer MediaCenter Software that comes on a CD along with the drivers works well with the device.-Works elegantly with Windows Media Center.-AVer MediaCenter's interface could use some polishing up can be tricky to figure out, and it would have been nice if it could have some method of automatically getting channel names along with the programs and times.Overall Review: I bought this TV tuner because I wanted to be able to record some of my favorite TV shows on my Dell XPS 15 laptop. I stuck the filter onto the dongle itself, then attached the cable to the filter.

This IS NOT a reason to keep from buying the receiver by any means or a reason to not install the AVer Media Center. DISABLE IT! It will cause your PC to blue screen at least once a week. I got a station from Chesapeake, VA all the way in Richmond, VA one morning in the car.Cons: IMPORTANT: AVer Media Player starts in the background on startup.

Called tech support and got a technician immediately (Wow!) and he explained that I needed to run the Setup.exe from the "TV Applications" folder. I got the error message "Windows can not find 'MCS1.7.5\TV'.". But, there is a paper insert in the product with the proper link ().There is a small problem with installation from the downloaded file. Well, unless you know exactly where to go, you're not likely to find the right download for this product. Instead I went to AverMedia's web site to download the latest version.
